PRO2 Commemorates the Gallantry of the Fallen SAF 44
CAMP MARCELO A ADDURU, TUGUEGARAO CITY- As tribute for the sacrifices and heroic acts of the SAF 44 Elite Police Commandos killed in a bloody encounter with Moro rebels in Mamasapano, Maguindanao 6 years ago, Police Regional Office 2 initiated a holy mass and wreath laying ceremony today, January 25, 2021. The solemn ceremony was held at the PRO2 grandstand and memorial headstone at Camp Marcelo Adduru, Tuguegarao City.
Police Brigadier General Walter Castillejos, Director of the Directorate for Plans led the wreath laying ceremony together with PRO2 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Crizaldo Nieves along with family members of four of the SAF 44.
RD NIEVES in his message said that the ultimate sacrifice of the SAF 44 is a vivid picture of an unrivaled professional commitment to the solemn vow for the service of country and people. “The supreme sacrifice they had offered for our country will never be forgotten. Today, we honor their heroism and patriotism with deep pride as our inspiration to continue on our sworn duty to serve and protect the people from whom we derived the power vested upon us. They are gone but their legacy will always remain in our hearts,” he added.
The Mamasapano clash resulted in the death of 44 SAF troopers, six of whom are natives of Cagayan Valley namely: Police Corporal Joel Dulnuan of Nueva Vizcaya province, Police Staff Sergeants Loreto Capinding, Rodrigo Acob, and Andres Duque, Jr of Isabela province, and Patrolman Oliebeth Viernes and Police Corporal Richelle Baluga of Cagayan province.
